“Welcoming The Sophomore”
Pee Wee Gaskins
In order to expand upon the mission of this blog, I present to you Pee Wee Gaskins.
Hailing from Jakarta, Indonesia, Pee Wee Gaskins formed in 2007. Their discography, though brief, is full of some punchy pop-punk gems. “Welcoming The Sophomore” is the appropriately (oddly?) named second track off of their debut album The Sophomore. The track is a perfect encapsulation of the pop-punk sound that reigned in the U.S at the time. It’s synthy, poppy and sugary-sweet, starting with a chorus of cheerleaders and throwing in a healthy dose of ‘doo roo roo’s’ in the prechorus. If you can get past the broken English, it’s a catchy listen, and would fit perfectly into a playlist alongside All Time Low, Mayday Parade and New Found Glory.
Plus, the video for the track will surely trigger some early 2000’s nostalgia.
I leave you with a track off of the band’s sophomore album Ad Astra Ad Aspera (released in 2011) in case the Pop-Punk revival sound is more your speed.
